the self-sufficiency ratio of Japan

Today Japan has a serious problem about the self-sufficiency ratio for food. The ratio of Japan was about 80% 50 years ago, but the ratio is 39%. The number is quite low among other developed countries. Most food that we eat is from other countries. Japan depends on importance from other countries. So Japanese people will not have food to eat if other countries stop exporting food into Japan. Japan has to consider solutions so that the crisis will not happen. Then there are several solutions to raise the self-sufficiency ratio for food. The first solution is that each house has a kitchen garden. Another solution is that schools in Japan encourage students to be involved in volunteer works in a farm village. The best solution is that Japanese government raises the price of food imports.

The first solution is that each house has a kitchen garden. If we raise vegetables in each kitchen garden, we do not have to buy vegetables. Moreover it can improve the self-sufficiency ratio. We do not need large space for kitchen garden. It is easier to raise vegetables with plant pots. If we raise vegetables by ourselves, we could surely savor them.

Another solution is that schools and universities encourage students to be involved in volunteer works in a farm village. Today it is elderly people that support farming of Japan. However more and more farm villages are disappearing in Japan, because only elderly people cannot maintain farm villages. Therefore the force of young people is necessary in order to keep farming. Schools and universities should encourage students to participate volunteer works in farming. That also could deepen interchanges between young and old.

The best solution is that Japanese government should raise the price of food imports. Generally, food imports is cheaper than domestic food in supermarkets. So, if food imports is more expensive, more and more people would buy domestic food. That can raise a supply of domestic food and improve the self-sufficiency ratio of Japan. On food imports, we do not know exactly who is the producer. If the name of producer is written on domestic food, we can eat buy and eat them in peace.

The self-sufficiency ratio keeps decreasing, besides the price of food is soaring. Therefore we never ignore this problem. Each everyone has to awake to the crisis of self-sufficiency of food.

the reasons why I like fast food

Today fast-food restaurants are popular among wide generations. While lunch -time or going out, I often use fast-food restaurants, too. I like fast-food restaurants better than ordinary restaurants. There are three reasons why I like fast-food restaurants. The reasons are short time of completion, cheap and handiness.

First, I do not have wait so long time to receive their meal since fast food is prepared mainly in advance. Also, fast-food restaurants are generally placed in convenient locations, so the restaurants are handy for busy people like businessmen and businesswomen. Moreover in drive-through I can buy food right from my car.

Second, I tend to use fast-food restaurants because their food is cheap. Recently they have some food and drinks that is only 100 yen. To add to their cheap food, we often can use coupons.

Third, I like fast food since I eat them by hand. I can eat them everywhere without cutlery and dishes. It is an advantage of fast food.

Though I care high calories and poor nutritional value, I tend to use fast food restaurants due to handiness. Also, I can fill my stomach for much less money than ordinary restaurants.
